Palestinian Democratic Union (FIDA) demands the withdrawal of the complaint filed against AMAN Coalition’s Board of Directors Advisor and its Executive Director
The Palestinian Democratic Union (FIDA) demanded the withdrawal of the complaint filed by the Presidential Bureau against AMAN Coalition’s Board of Directors Advisor for Integrity and Anti-Corruption Affairs, Dr. Azmi Shuaibi, and AMAN’s Executive Director Mr. Issam Haj-Hussein. The said arrests took place against the backdrop of a report issued by AMAN Coalition in 2020 related to “Whitening settlement dates”, as mentioned in the report.
FIDA stated that the correct dealing would be to investigate the truth of the statements mentioned in that report and to correct any errors (if present) regarding the aforementioned subject. They added that AMAN Coalition should not have been prosecuted for what was stated in this report because accountability, anti-corruption, and inquiry into wrongful acts constitute the main mandate of this Coalition.
The Palestinian Democratic Union (FIDA) asserted that they view the said complaint with extreme negatively because it obstructs the work of civil society and community organizations and affects the freedom of expression, hence it is categorically rejected.
FIDA concluded that this case (which they demand to end immediately and withdraw its related complaint) highlights the importance of having a law that regulates and ensures easy access to information and respects citizens’ right to be informed about public affairs and funds and the situation of their homeland and state.
